Resources to help students research information for a school project or paper.

Research Services

Do you need resource data to help you research information for a project or paper? Our Health Information Search Services lists professional organizations that can research general information and treatment options related to diseases and health conditions. Some are allopathic in approach, some are alternative, and some are a combination of both. Some charge a fee. Some are free. The listings indicate how each service operates, what it can provide to you, and where its researchers get their information.

What is Holistic?

Perhaps you are contacting AHHA because you are including some aspect of holistic in your work. For optimal communication in your writing, it is best to define how you are using the words holistic, holistic health, and/or holistic medicine. Since there are so many different ways people use the word holistic, we recommend that you take a few minutes to review some of the articles in our What is Holistic? section.

  • If your project is about treatment options and/or healing modalities, we recommend you refer to these as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Holistic is not the name of a healing modality.
  • If your project is about the mind/body/spirit connection, then you might refer to this as holistic or the whole person approach.
Healing Modality Information Sources

For data about a specific healing modality, check the professional association for the particular modality you are researching. Our Practitioner Referral Sources is a list of almost 100 organizations that offer practitioner referrals. Many of these organizations are the professional associations for specific healthcare modalities. Start with a search for the healing modality you seek, such as medical, homeopathic, or chiropractic.

Wellness Articles

AHHA's Self-Help Articles present a wide variety of wellness articles. Use the search options to see if any of the articles are related to your project topic.

Introduction to the Holistic Approach

Our booklet, Wellness From Within: The First Step, presents the concept of the interrelationship of mind, body, and spirit, and is filled with ideas that explain the power each of us has to change. It is designed to help people understand the power of one's choices and the importance of being an active participant in one's healing.
